Dra. Ivón Rodríguez. Graduated in Electronics and Communications Engineering from ITESM Campus Monterrey, Mexico, in 2004. She obtained her Masters in Bioengineering (2006) and in Biomedical Engineering (2008) from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and Universitat de Barcelona (UB) respectively. She obtained her PhD in Biomedicine in 2011 (UB) with a research stay at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Hull, UK. She completed a first postdoc at the Condensed Matter Physics Department (UB) and a second at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM), focusing on complex fluids analysis and characterisation, microfabrication and microfluidic devices. She has been a part-time professor at UB for six years, teaching informatics, bioengineering, robotics and mechatronics courses. She has been part of several technology transfer and industry collaboration projects. Her research interests include microfluidics, microfabrication, magnetophoresis, analysis and monitoring of biological samples at the microscale, and development of microdevices for multidisciplinary fields. She has also led the creation, assembly, and management of several research laboratories at UB, CRM and UPC. She is the author of more than ten scientific journals (mostly in Q1), and book chapters and holds two licensed international patents in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.
